Uniforms
Your uniform is supplied by Helena basketball Club and in most cases will include a singlet and shorts. In some age groups the uniform is purchased by the member for continued use, where no size changes are required. In our children's divisions they are supplied by the club.
Uniform Requirements
• Player top: must be tucked in at all times for boys & girls.
• Undergarments, e.g., skins under shorts or singlets under tops, must be black, white, or the dominant colour of the playing top.
• Nails must be clipped.
• No jewellery (including earrings/watches).
• Hair must be tied back if below the shoulders.
• Mouthguards are optional but encouraged.
Communication
The communications with the club can be managed through your first points of call. Your Coach and Team Manager. They will keep you informed of your requirements and be able to answer most of your questions. Should you require assistance beyond this please reach out to the club via the email on our contact page.
Weekly Fees
There is a weekly fee that is done by the Team Manager on the day of the game, this is court fees, refs etc.
For this to happen we use the App TEAMPAY.
When joining just sign up for yourself or and your child. That way if ever we need to use, system access can always be added. Once you’ve set up your payment, name or and child’s name. You can add team to player. Team Managers will send a Team Code for the seasons payments to be allocated.
*** Please do not set up a PIN for payment authorisation, because if you are not available we can’t put the teams payment through and they don’t allow you to play without payment going through.***
In relation to the TeamPay, this is how it works. Payments are allocated each week on the day of the game. Team manager or coach checks off all the players. Once the player is marked on the day, the weekly payment is allocated. The total weekly cost is split by the team evenly.
***We can’t start and allocate Game fees or play until all are signed up so please do sooner rather than later ***
For more information on setting up and using TEAMPAY, check out this PDF.
Team Trophies & Awards
Some teams choose to present end of season trophies for Most Valuable Player and Coaches Award. This is at the Coaches/ Team Managers discretion.

Coaches
Thanks so much for volunteering your time to work with our Helena players. We really couldn't do this without you.
Fixtures
All fixtures can be accessed by anyone at any time. To find your team's information, please head to PlayHQ. Find your team's fixtures HERE.
Grading will be conducted over the first three rounds of competition.
If you have any concerns about how your team fits within their current division, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Training
We are very fortunate that Helena College allows us to use the outdoor court at the Darlington campus and the two outdoor courts at the Glen Forrest campus.
Please get in touch with our Registrar via HBC email with any questions or to set up your preferred team's weekly training.
Please remember that school requirements will always take precedence over basketball training, and there will be times during the season when the courts will not be available. We will always try to give you notice if this happens.
Siblings and friends of players are not the responsibility of the coach and must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
Equipment
The basic equipment will be allocated to you by the club. Including things such as:
-
Basketballs
-
Clipboard
-
Whistle
-
Training Cones
It is recommended that things such as nail clippers, a basic first aid kit and an ice pack are brought to the game but are currently not supplied. This can be accessed at Mundaring Arena should you not have these on game day.
Subs during the game
Should you wish to allocate even playing times during the games, there are several easy apps this can be done through. The most popular is SUBTIME. Simply register for free your team and share with others to allow the flow of subbing your players on and off the court with ease. This is a great job for a parent or two throughout the season.
Special Rules
Hills Raiders has specific guidelines to maintain an environment in which all our participants get to enjoy themselves regardless of their skill level.
Refer "Score Margin Policy" and the specifics below.
More than 30 points – under 14s and above
When a team is winning by more than 30 points from under 14 and above the “Mercy Rule” applies.
-
Half-court defence only – NO full court press. This includes post a score and all inbounding.
-
Play man to man at least an arm length, keeping hand out.
-
No double-teaming players.
-
Ensure stronger players are subbed evenly with weaker players.
More than 20 points – under 12s
-
Half-court defence only – NO full court press. This includes post a score and all inbounding.
-
Play man to man at least an arm length, keeping hand out.
-
No double-teaming players.
-
Ensure stronger players are subbed evenly.
Regardless of Margins – Under 8s and 10s
-
Half-court defence only – NO full court press. This includes post a score and all inbounding.

Most importantly – be a good sport and role model to not only your players, but to the other team.

Grading will be conducted over the first three rounds of competition.
If you have any concerns about how your team fits within their current division, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please share each week with your players, the sooner the better so players and families can be sure they can attend game times.
Scoring of Games
There is an electronic scoring system done on iPad at each game. It is recommended that a weekly roster is created so there is an equal share of the volunteering by parents/players.
If you’ve not done this before or want a refresher, please find a link to a quick four minutes instruction video on how to use the system if you’d like to get familiar before the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdTboL_uYqk
This task is simply scoring the points and fouls on provided iPad/laptop. The referee will show us if unsure and everyone can provide each other with assistance.
Absentees
Should you have not enough players or a number of your team absent, you can get substitutes if required. Please make it clear to your team to let you know in advance if you are unable to attend due to planned absences. If sick as soon as possible, where possible.
Substitute players must be registered with the Hills Raiders Winter season to be able to fill in for absentees for insurance purposes. They must also be in that age category or younger. They can't play down a grade, as it's simply unfair.
Please be sure to check there is no clash of player numbers for the game. Additional uniform singlets can be provided if required.
Fill in players are to register at the Mundaring Arena Office before games commence on the form supplied by HRBA.
When scoring, please just update the team players on the scoring Ipad prior to the game so it reflects the team playing the game.
If you are having trouble finding enough players, please reach out, and we can ask around on your teams behalf.
If for any reason we have to forfeit a game due to not enough numbers we have to give 24 hours notice or a fee is due.
Training
We are very fortunate that Helena College allows us to use the outdoor court at the Darlington campus and the two outdoor courts at the Glen Forrest campus.
Please get in touch with our Coaches Liason via HBC email with any questions or to set up your preferred team's weekly training. Your Coach can do this also.
Please remember that school requirements will always take precedence over basketball training, and there will be times during the season when the courts will not be available. We will always try to give you notice if this happens.
Uniforms
The team uniform is supplied by Helena Basketball Club and in most cases will include a singlet and shorts. In some age groups, the uniform is purchased by the member for continued use, where no size changes are required. In our children's divisions, they are supplied by the club.

Uniform Requirements
• Player top: must be tucked in at all times for boys & girls.
• Undergarments, i.e. skins, undershorts or singlets under tops, must be black, white or the dominant colour of the playing top.
• Nails must be clipped.
• No jewellery (including earrings/watches). You can tape over jewellery if it can't be removed.
• Hair must be tied back if below the shoulders.
• Mouthguards are optional but encouraged. (Check with your private health care provider, as they are often fully claimable.)
• Sun cream is recommended when playing on outdoor courts.

Should there be a payment that can't go through, use this quick guide to process payments.
If there are regular problems with payments not going through please reach out to HBC to follow up further on your behalf.
It is also important to check with your team and agree on the payment allocation.
There are two options.
Option 1: The Team all agree to allocate for each player in the team each week. The same amount for each player is then allocated throughout the season.
Option 2: The allocated payment is done only for players who play the game on the day. This means each week's amount can vary etc as the entry cost is split by number of players.
Helena Basketball recommended Option 1 unless there was a player who was injured for the season or couldn’t play as such.
Completely up to you as a team.
